A long-time supporter of IONS, Federico Faggin was born in Italy, where he graduated in physics in 1965 from University of Padua, Italy, and worked for Fairchild Semiconductors and Intel before becoming a serial entrepreneur. He recently published his autobiography describing his “four lives” from creating cutting-edge technology in Silicon Valley to developing a holistic theory of consciousness. IONS Director of Research, Helané Wahbeh, will interview Federico Faggin about his book and life, giving you a personal view of this remarkable man.

Helané Wahbeh, ND, MCR, is the Director of Research at the Institute of Noetic Sciences and an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Wahbeh is clinically trained as a naturopathic physician and research trained with a Master of Clinical Research and two post-doctoral research fellowships. She has published on and spoken internationally about her studies on complementary and alternative medicine, mind-body medicine, stress, and posttraumatic stress disorder and their relationships to physiology, health, and healing.

Federico Faggin is an Italian-American physicist, engineer, inventor and entrepreneur. He is best known for designing the first commercial microprocessor, the Intel 4004, and developed the design methodology and directed the design of all early Intel’s microprocessors. In 1974, Faggin started and directed his first company, Zilog, Inc., entirely dedicated to the emergent microprocessor and microcontroller market.
Faggin went on to found and direct Cygnet Technologies, Inc., the company that in 1984 introduced a pioneering personal communication product for voice, data, and electronic mail. He founded and directed Synaptics Inc., the company that developed artificial neural network chips to perform pattern recognition. During the period 2003-2008, Faggin was Chairman of Synaptics and CEO of Foveon, Inc., the developer of advanced image sensors and digital cameras for mobile devices.
Federico Faggin received many prizes and awards in the United States, Europe, and Japan. Distinguished among them are the Marconi Prize (1988), the Kyoto Prize for Advanced Technology (1997), the Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Patent Organization (2006), and the 2009 National Medal of Technology and Innovation, from President Barack Obama. In 1996, Faggin was inducted in the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame.
Faggin is currently president of the Federico and Elvia Faggin Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the scientific study of consciousness, a long-standing interest that now has become a passionate full-time activity.
Kerstin Sjoquist is the Director of Experience & Engagement at the Institute of Noetic Sciences. A long-time IONS member, a series of synchronous and magical events led Kerstin to a staff position at the Institute in 2014, where she now spends her days in support of the creation of IONS programmatic offerings to benefit those who seek a deeper engagement with potential and fulfillment. Prior to joining IONS, Kerstin was the founder and CEO of Consciousness Arts, Inc., specializing in psycho-spiritual products, classes, and services to assist people in expanding and enhancing their lives.
Garret Yount, PhD, is a Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences. Dr. Yount’s primary interest is bridging molecular neurobiology with aspects of consciousness and the nonmaterial mind. He has conducted carefully controlled laboratory experiments with spiritual healers and biofield practitioners from around the world, including China, Brazil, Canada, USA, Japan, India, Russia, Hungary, and Sri Lanka. He has evaluated a variety of mental influence models, ranging from human brain cells in petri dishes receiving distant healing intention to hospitalized children experiencing Expressive Arts Therapy.
Joshua Weiss, MD, is an IONS Fellow and Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University, where he teaches medical residents and medical students. In addition to teaching, Dr. Weiss has been the lead investigator for the Institute of Noetic Sciences’ Spontaneous Remission Annotated Bibliography (SRB) project since 2012. This IONS project has been ongoing since its initial publication in 1993 as the standard text on cancer and chronic disease spontaneous remission.
Pat McCabe (Weyakpa Najin Win, Woman Stands Shining) is a Diné (Navajo) mother, grandmother, activist, artist, writer, ceremonial leader, and international speaker. She is a voice for global peace, and her paintings are created as tools for individual, earth, and global healing. She draws upon the Indigenous sciences of Thriving Life to reframe questions about sustainability and balance, and she is devoted to supporting the next generations — Women’s Nation and Men’s Nation — in being functional members of the “Hoop of Life” and upholding the honor of being human. Claire Lachance serves as the CEO of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, where she has championed organizational transformation via strategic clarity, healthy culture, and high integrity operations. Claire earned her MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA magna cum laude in Economics from Tufts University. Representing IONS around the world, Claire is passionate about the expansion of Noetic Leadership as a vital tool for addressing the profound opportunities and challenges of our times.
Alan Briskin, PhD, is a pioneer in the field of organizational learning and leadership development. He has been working with executives, managers, and teams for over 35 years as a coach and consultant, specializing in systems change and collective wisdom. Alan’s work is distinguished by his attention to the conditions that allow for change and innovation. He estimates spending over 10,000 hours in conversations, 1-1 and in small teams, with managers and executives addressing change processes and their role in it. He has held retainer relationships with multiple organizations for consecutive periods of 10 years or longer, including Lucasfilm, Goi Peace Foundation, Sutter Health, and Kaiser Permanente. Co-founder of the Collective Wisdom Initiative, he has written or co-authored five books, including the award winning The Power of Collective Wisdom, Daily Miracles, and The Stirring of Soul in the Workplace.
Based on his latest book release The Journey of Soul Initiation: A Field Guide for Visionaries, Evolutionaries, and Revolutionaries, Bill Plotkin will present a map of the terrain of the five phases of the Descent to Soul, a map based on the most important things he has learned during his 40 years of designing and guiding a contemporary, Western approach to adult initiation.
Bill Plotkin, PhD, is a eco-depth psychologist, wilderness guide, and agent of cultural evolution. As founder of southwest Colorado’s Animas Valley Institute, he has, since 1980, guided thousands of women and men through nature-based initiatory passages, including a contemporary, Western adaptation of the pan-cultural vision fast. He’s also been a research psychologist (studying nonordinary states of consciousness), professor of psychology, rock musician, and whitewater river guide.
