Our Unmaking of the World — and the Return to Being

ConnectIONS Live!

Co-produced by the Institute of Noetic Sciences and the Scientific and Medical Network

How did we unmake and how can we remake the world?

Join us for a unique opportunity to spend time with Dr. Iain McGilchrist as he addresses some of the oldest and hardest questions humanity faces – ones that, however, have a practical urgency for all of us today. Who are we? What is the world? How can we understand consciousness, matter, space, and time? Is the cosmos without purpose or value? Can we really neglect the sacred and divine?

In his landmark new book, The Matter with Things, he argues that we have become enslaved to an account of things dominated by the brain’s left hemisphere, one that blinds us to an awe-inspiring reality that is all around us, had we but eyes to see it. He suggests that in order to understand ourselves and the world we need science and intuition, reason and imagination, not just one or two; that they are in any case far from being in conflict; and that the brain’s right hemisphere plays the most important part in each. And he shows us how to recognize the ‘signature’ of the left hemisphere in our thinking, so as to avoid making decisions that bring disaster in their wake.

Following the paths of cutting-edge neurology, philosophy, and physics, he reveals how each leads us to a similar vision of the world, one that is both profound and beautiful – and happens to be in line with the deepest traditions of human wisdom. It is a vision that returns the world to life, and us to a better way of living in it: one we must embrace if we are to survive.

Since we first sketched spiritual symbols on cave walls, humans have used the visual arts as a pathway to noetic realms. As our ancestors knew, the powerful alchemy of image and imagination brings us to a deep connection with non-material reality, and allows us to access information and energy not bounded by space and time.

Wake Up to Sleep: Healing Through Lucid Dreaming

ConnectIONS Live!

The IONS team recently partnered with a luminary in the field of lucid dreaming, Charlie Morley, to conduct a Healing Lucid Dream study with participants experiencing PTSD. A lucid dream is a dream during which the dreamer “wakes up” inside the dream. This hybrid state of consciousness allows the dreamer to gain intentional control over the elements within the dream and can be used to transform trauma while you sleep.

Linking Consciousness to the Foundations of Physics

ConnectIONS Live!

Join us for a special ConnectIONS Live webinar on Friday, October 8th, with Dr. Joachim Keppler as he presents a model of how consciousness can be integrated into the worldview of physics. Based on his research, he will show a self-consistent theory, fully compatible with empirical evidence, that can be formulated by relating consciousness to the ubiquitous background (force) fields of the standard model, particularly to the zero-point field (ZPF) mediating the electromagnetic force.

Mind & Matter

ConnectIONS Live!

Laboratory studies indicate that the mind can directly interact with matter. Some properties of these mind-matter interactions are remarkably similar to properties of the physical world as described by quantum mechanics. Are these similarities merely a coincidence, or are they clues about something more meaningful? How can we begin to understand how these effects work?
