An “insider” look into IONS staff Noetic Practices
In this blog series, we are highlighting the practices that our IONS staff members use to connect to information and energy beyond space and time. The various ways that we individually connect with this type of information make up our unique Noetic Signature™. This month, Dr. Helané Wahbeh, IONS Director of Research, shares an energy meditation technique that brings awareness to the energetic body. This will be the first of two blogs on Dr. Wahbeh’s noetic experiential practice.
Meditation and energy work have been an important part of Dr. Wahbeh’s personal and professional life for years. She has been trained as a mindfulness meditation instructor and studied with many spiritual teachers. Dr. Wahbeh has published on and spoken internationally about her studies on complementary and alternative medicine, mind-body medicine, extended human capacities, channeling, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and their relationships to physiology, health, and healing. She is currently overseeing the IONS Noetic Signature™ study.
NFK: Helané, can you provide some information and background on this meditation technique which brings awareness to the energetic body?
HW: It’s a combination of practices and tools I have learned from different teachings. It feels important to acknowledge the foundational work of those who have supported me along the way and from whose work I drew from to create this practice. There are a few steps to this energy meditation and I’ll cover the first three in this blog and give a little background on them.
Step #1 Getting Present: This first step comes from my mindfulness training and it’s about getting very present in the moment, in our mind and our physical and energetic body.
Step #2 Clearing Energy: The second step, I learned from an energy healer about 30 years ago and I have been using it ever since. It’s about clearing and letting go of any energy that doesn’t belong to you and calling in or back to your own energy.
Step #3 Grounding: The grounding practice comes from Leslie Temple-Thurston at Core Light, a spiritual teacher who I have worked with for 20 years or so. I often recommend her book Returning to Oneness: The Seven Keys to Ascension because it is such a clear, easy to understand, focused, and accessible way to learn so many of these concepts.

Welcome back… Thank you for joining us for this simple yet powerful meditation experience! Again, you may want to take a moment to reorient your attention into the room where you are and you can wiggle your fingers and toes to come fully back into your body and use your physical senses to reconnect to the space — smelling the air, feeling the clothing on your skin, hearing any sounds… etc. Those acts of attention bring us right into the present moment.
