As part of EXPLORE’s inquiry into the mind-body connection and the inter-connectivity of human consciousness with the world, this issue features a conversation with Dean Radin, PhD, senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS).Dr Radin earned a BSEE magna cum laude in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and an MS in electrical engineering and a PhD in educational psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Cham-paign. While pursuing a scientiﬁc education, he played the classical violin in orchestras and quartets and the ﬁddle and banjo in bluegrass bands. After working as a member of the technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories and later as a principal scientist at GTE Laboratories, he switched ﬁelds to follow his primary love—the study of consciousness. For the past 17 years, he has conducted experimental studies of psi phenomena at Princeton University, University of Edinburgh, University of Nevada, and SRI International, the latter as a visiting scientist on a classiﬁed program of psi research. Before joining IONS, he co-founded the Boundary Institute, a Silicon Valley nonproﬁt scientiﬁc research organization, and he was in charge of a psi research program at Interval Research Corporation in Palo Alto, California.His research awards include the Parapsychological Association’s Outstanding Achievement Award and the Rhine Research Center’s Alexander Imich Award for advances in experimental parapsychology. He has received grants from the Richard Hodgson Memorial Fund at Harvard University, the Bial Foundation in Portugal, the Parapsychology Foundation in New York, the Society for Psychical Research in London, the Swedish Society for Psychical Research in Stockholm, the Institut für Grenzgebiete der Psychologie und Psychohygiene in Germany, and the Bigelow Foundation in Las Vegas. Dr Radin is author of The Conscious Universe (1997, Harper One) and Entangled Minds (2006, Simon & Schuster), and is author or co-author of over 200 journal articles, technical reports, and popular articles.
