After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal About Life and Beyond

What Do Near-Death Experiences Suggest About Life, Death, and Beyond?

Near-death experiences (NDEs) are profound experiences that frequently occur on the threshold of death. They include phenomena that are difficult if not impossible to reconcile with a materialistic view of the mind, such as enhanced thinking and perceptions while the brain is severely impaired, accurate perceptions from outside the physical body, and encounters with deceased persons not known to have died. Dr. Bruce Greyson has been studying NDEs for almost half a century. In this presentation, he shares some of his most important findings on the nature of life and death, illustrating his research data with captivating examples.

Dr. Greyson will discuss challenges in researching NDEs, establishing the reality of NDEs, the most common features of the experience, various models that have been proposed to explain NDEs, and the dramatic transformations that usually follow NDEs. Finally, he will discuss the implications of NDEs for our understanding of mind and brain, for our understanding of the possibility of post-mortem survival, and for our understanding of the relationship between biological and spiritual events and what that implies about what it means to be human.

The Noetic SignatureTM Revealed

ConnectIONS Live!

At IONS we have a Guiding Hypothesis:
All things are interconnected, and embodying that awareness reveals information and energy not limited by space and time, and can profoundly amplify transformation, innovation, and well-being.

The question, however, is HOW do different people access and receive this information? The answer to this question is what our Director of Research Dr. Helané Wahbeh calls our Noetic Signature™.

After surveying more than 500 people in Phase II of the three-phase Noetic Signature™ Inventory study exploring this phenomenon, Dr. Wahbeh and her team have developed an inventory of 11 content factors that make up the Noetic Signature. The list includes a full range of noetic experiences, from lucid dreams to telepathy to channeling.

From Cutting-Edge Technology to the New Science of Consciousness

ConnectIONS Live!

Join us in a celebration of Federico Faggin’s new book, Silicon: From the Invention of the Microprocessor to the New Science of Consciousness. A long-time supporter of IONS, Federico Faggin was born in Italy, where he graduated in physics in 1965 from University of Padua, Italy, and worked for Fairchild Semiconductors and Intel before becoming a serial entrepreneur. He recently published his autobiography describing his “four lives” from creating cutting-edge technology in Silicon Valley to developing a holistic theory of consciousness. IONS Director of Research, Helané Wahbeh, will interview Federico Faggin about his book and life, giving you a personal view of this remarkable man.

Federico Faggin is an Italian-American physicist, engineer, inventor and entrepreneur. He is best known for designing the first commercial microprocessor, the Intel 4004, and developed the design methodology and directed the design of all early Intel’s microprocessors. In 1974, Faggin started and directed his first company, Zilog, Inc., entirely dedicated to the emergent microprocessor and microcontroller market.

Faggin went on to found and direct Cygnet Technologies, Inc., the company that in 1984 introduced a pioneering personal communication product for voice, data, and electronic mail. He founded and directed Synaptics Inc., the company that developed artificial neural network chips to perform pattern recognition. During the period 2003-2008, Faggin was Chairman of Synaptics and CEO of Foveon, Inc., the developer of advanced image sensors and digital cameras for mobile devices.

Federico Faggin received many prizes and awards in the United States, Europe, and Japan. The Experimenter Effect

ConnectIONS Live!

How can we accurately test for telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, and psychokinesis (mind over matter)?

One stumbling block is the possibility that experimenters and subjects are unconsciously influenced to find what they expect to find — and not what’s really happening. If this is true, it would be very hard to replicate experiments and get the same results. Join IONS Scientist, Dr. Arnaud Delorme, on Friday, April 2nd to hear about a “time-reversed” experiment that offers an innovative approach to the role of beliefs in psi.

Discover how this research has helped to validate precognition — and how his findings will help make it easier to replicate psi experiments going forward!

Live Long and Prosper: A Noetic Look at Longevity and Retirement

“Live long and prosper” — this iconic greeting from a beloved science fiction character takes on new meaning as you approach your retirement years. What steps can you take to aspire toward this goal?

Compelling scientific evidence indicates that living long and living well is most realistic for those who are socially engaged, practice healthy living behaviors and are able to build financial security. But mere knowledge of these steps is often not sufficient to motivate people to take the necessary action steps to improve their lives. People often do best by integrating scientific knowledge with intention, inspiration, and imagination. And that’s where noetic principles can really help!

Bridging Esoteric Vajrayana Practices with Science to Enhance Human Cognition

This is the first scientific conference on Vajrayana pratices, bringing together psychologists, neuroscientists, and medical scientists together with Vajrayana scholars and practitioners to examine the effects of mind-body practices of Vajrayana – the Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhist tradition on enhancing human cognition and creativity. For a variety of political and economic reasons, these advanced Vajrayana practices are currently on the verge of disappearance.

IONS Scientist Dr. Arnaud Delorme will speak on the topic “Current neuroscience research on Vajrayana practices and their possible neurocognitive and physiological mechanisms I & II” with Maria Kozhevnikov on March 27th. He will also be participating in the roundtable discussions on April 3-4, 2021.
