Cultivating Vitality in Body, Mind, and Spirit: The Ecosystem of Mental Well-Being

What is vitality? Exuberance, vibrance, sparkle, spirit, and verve — terms rarely found in psychology textbooks. Vulnerability to depression and anxiety is widespread, and our culture traditionally emphasizes reducing symptoms with drugs that alter certain neurotransmitters, which is only part of the picture. We are living in a new era where vulnerabilities can become strengths, and what used to be stigma becomes common humanity. Good mental health is being redefined in terms of stress resilience, post-traumatic growth, and vitality.

This workshop explores evidence-based tools for living a vibrant life, even in the presence of stress, depression, anxiety, or any pain we may be carrying. We will help you build your own ecosystem of mental well-being — including new ways to foster vitality and purpose through caring for the brain, body, and gut. In this workshop, we’ll review the latest scientific findings on practices such as:

  • Hot and cold exposures
  • Optimal physical challenges
  • Breathing techniques
  • Meditation
  • Embodied movement

A mental health renaissance is underway. Mental well-being is being redefined, and a range of evidence-based, whole-person approaches are gaining ground. Learn from renowned authors and cutting-edge scientists to create a flourishing ecosystem of mental well-being for yourself and your clients.

How We Change and Why We Don’t: The Art and Science of Transformation at the Esalen Institute

Have you ever worked hard to make a change, only to find yourself slipping back into old habits? Want to supercharge your ability to stimulate behavior change in others when it comes to the issues you care about the most? Is it time to break free from old patterns and build your next chapter? This workshop is for people in the process of change and those who work as change agents with individuals, groups, and organizations and in society.

Through dialogue, experiential practice, and creative process, we will bridge the science of breakthroughs with indigenous, religious, spiritual, and secular models of transformation. You will:

  • Learn what works and what doesn’t to inspire lasting change in yourself and others.
  • Explore how peak experiences, a-ha! moments and awe can stimulate change.
  • Examine how we and those we work with can get stuck or lost, and find ways to shake free from periods of inertia or patterns that prevent us from moving forward.
  • Investigate the transformative potential of pain, hitting bottom, and post-traumatic growth.
  • Delve into stories, symbols, and metaphors of transformation to guide your path.

Join IONS Fellow Cassandra Vieten, PhD, for this transformational exploration of our most deeply entrenched behaviors. Learn how to break free from the patterns that no longer serve you — and create new habits that will change your life.

How To Transform Science: Six Potential Breakthroughs

Rupert Sheldrake’s scientific curiosity is drawn to areas of research where very little is known, but which have the potential for opening up whole new fields of inquiry. Questions that are neglected because they do not fit in with the prevailing orthodoxies are often the most fruitful. They open hidden doorways into new realms of the sciences. Taken together they can lead us into a more holistic, interconnected vision of nature.

In this series of talks, Rupert discusses six open questions that have occupied and preoccupied him for many years and suggests how they could be answered by new experiments, most of which are inexpensive. Some could be student or citizen science projects, and all could help overcome the ‘innovation deficit’ within scientific institutions, where cultural and funding systems favor incremental advances along familiar lines.

The rate of innovation has slowed down in recent decades, despite ever-increasing levels of funding, known to think tanks as ‘the innovation deficit’. The law of diminishing returns holds institutional science in its thrall. These talks point toward breakthroughs.

Spirit Plant Medicine Conference 2022

Life on planet Earth is changing faster than most of us could possibly have imagined only a few short years ago. The need for new (and ancient) visions of wisdom and compassion is greater than ever. When understood and used in optimal conditions and effectively integrated into the daily walk, the psychedelic, sacramental healing, and awakening plants and related substances are arguably the most potent allies and tools available to struggling humanity in these tumultuous times.

But these powerful substances are not the story itself. At their best, they are in service of this overarching vision and urgent need for a “turning of the wheel.” The Spirit Plant Medicine Conference is passionately committed to providing a platform for the sharing of insight and wisdom toward this vision and prayer for humanity, for all inhabitants of the planet, and for the Earth itself.

You are warmly invited to attend this seminal and potentially life-altering event, for yourself and for all our relatives on the beautiful blue planet.

One of the defining and all but unique features of the beloved Spirit Plant Medicine Conference, now in its 11th year in Vancouver, Canada, is its diversity and its range of perspectives on psychedelics and consciousness transformation. Each year features a more or less equal balance of female and male presenters with significant indigenous and BIPOC representation.

Speakers include Christopher M. Bache, IONS Emeritus Fellow, and influential ceremonialists, therapists, philosophers, visionary mystics, advocates, activists, and academics – always with a keen eye on sharing “actionable” information and inspiration for individual and collective healing for a planet in transition.

IRVA 2022 Conference – “Visions for the Future” Celebrating 50 Years of Remote Viewing

What if you could see the location of a submarine or satellite or even a soul mate… from your living room? Find a missing child, a long-lost lover, or your car keys, by closing your eyes, relaxing, and drawing a detailed picture? Know the winning sports team or roulette numbers before arriving at the table?

Remote viewing is a systematic process for the application of intuitive abilities, that you can learn. It is done individually, in teams, and in groups, and this form of controlled intuition offers exciting and delightful community-building opportunities. This landmark conference is intellectually rigorous so it will satisfy educational goals, but also the social and spiritual yearnings of participants.

At this intensive 3-day and evening “Visions for the Future” conference, participants will be led through remote viewing “outbounder” experiments emulating those carried out in the early days of the research program around Menlo Park. One workshop will include how to conduct psychological profiling with remote viewing, led by IRVA board member Patty Gallagher. There will even be an experimental research room open throughout the conference where participants can have fun participating in remote viewing tasks!

This event will also feature a presentation on some of the latest work done by IONS Scientists and Fellows. Damon Abraham will discuss the work he, Cedric Cannard, Julia Mossbridge, and Helané Wahbeh have done developing an open-sourced database of images for use in both parapsychological and traditional psychological research. Learn about how the project aims to generate normative ratings for around 2000 unique images that vary across 18 separate subjective dimensions or classes.

IONS is pleased to share that three IONS Fellows will be presenters. Marilyn Schlitz will be speaking on July 22nd. Peter Bancel will be speaking on Parapsychology on July 24th. Julia Mossbridge will be speaking on Operational Precognitive Remote Viewing on July 24th.
