Truth Medicine: A Nondual Approach to Psychedelic Psychotherapy

What all of us long for most—peace, love, ease, joy, etc.—can be found in the very moments of our longing and suffering. While the healing path may be difficult and the daily integration practices hard, the truth is simple: unconditional love is both the healing salve and our true nature.

Discovering, accessing, and applying this love toward one’s self is the essence of the nondual approach to psychedelic psychotherapy. In this approach, we start from this place of innocence, ease, and peace, and work our way through the layers of trauma, shame, and untended grief with love as the healing balm.

Join Psychedelic Support on Friday, October 13th, 2023 from 12 PM-1 PM PDT for a webinar with Michael Sapiro, PsyD.

Traditional therapies work from the outside in, addressing the various layers that cause us pain and discomfort toward what is good. Nondual psychedelic psychotherapy begins with what is already good and wholesome, and then we move with grace, truth, honesty, unconditional love, and acceptance through the layers we want to heal. There is no greater medicine than self-love, so why not spend our time accessing that first so we can apply it like a salve on all the untended grief and unhealed wounds that we discover on our psychedelic psychotherapy journey?

In this experiential talk, Dr. Sapiro will offer an example of nondual meditation as it applies to the therapeutic process, case studies, and nondual therapeutic methods, and will cover the framework that runs throughout the entire therapeutic process (preparation, ketamine sessions, and integration). You will learn how concepts like nonduality, loving witness, loving awareness, original essence, grace, and unconditional love can be applied during the therapeutic process.

We don’t want to wait a lifetime to experience this within ourselves. Why don’t we start there? The nondual approach to psychedelic psychotherapy leads toward the experience of what is whole and unbroken within a relatively short time. When we get a taste of this truth, even briefly and fleetingly, we know it exists, and know what to aim for. This is the brightest beacon on our horizon of healing and growth in the psychedelic psychotherapeutic process.

Grateful Aging: Embracing Our Wisdom Years

Understanding and managing the process of aging is a central issue in modern society. This is a critical factor given the demographic shift toward an aging population and the negative stereotypes around aging that can limit people’s worldview on aging with gratitude and well-being. This discussion overviews a naturalistic model of grateful aging and transformation.

IONS Senior Fellow Marilyn Schlitz will help identify a set of steps to promote well-being and to shift the fear of aging into inspiration for living well. The nine steps to Grateful Aging include:

  1. answer the call to transformation
  2. cultivate curiosity
  3. formalize an Aging practice
  4. set intention for Aging
  5. pay attention to the gifts of aging
  6. build Grateful Aging habits
  7. find guidance
  8. move to acceptance
  9. transform self and society

Educational programs are described for elderly patients and for the healthcare professionals who serve them. The Grateful Aging Program is designed to expand awareness of healthy, mindful, and meaningful aging; promote individual and social well-being; and facilitate a supportive atmosphere for personal enrichment and shared learning.

The Next You: The Art of Futuremaking

What innate potential lies dormant within you? What dreams are yearning to be expressed? What does it look like to be fully alive, live an integrated and embodied life, and become an engaged part of the larger ecosystem of nature and community? It’s time to meet your future self and find out.

Co-fascilitated by former IONS CEO, Cassandra Vieten, this workshop focuses on creating a robust, loving relationship with the best future version of you — the one who can help you pivot the direction of your life toward your heart’s vision. We will learn how to communicate with and embody that future self while mapping out the new terrain of your life in a process we call “futuremaking.” Using the sciences of imagination, transformation, and hope, you’ll chart a course for your next chapter.

Join us for a three-day workshop where we will engage in futuremaking experiences, including talks to spark insights; small and large group discussions to ground learning; guided imagery, meditation, and creative processes to connect you with your deeper wisdom; and movement and deep engagement with the beauty of Esalen to renew your spirit.

As we weave cutting-edge science with deep experiential practices and rich connection with kindred spirits, you’ll move forward — not back to “normal” or even a “new normal” — but ahead into a new extraordinary. Your future self is calling for you.

Morphic Resonance, Memory and the Habits of Nature

Embark on an illuminating journey through Rupert Sheldrake’s groundbreaking hypothesis of morphic resonance in this 8-part video series, his deepest dive yet on the topic. Rupert proposes that memory is inherent in nature and evolves through habits rather than fixed laws, working from the past to the present and into the future. In this seminar, he will outline the scientific basis of his hypothesis and explain how it impacts biological inheritance, personal and collective memory, instincts, and the development of both living and non-living self-organizing systems, from crystals to societies.

Learn how morphic resonance fosters a fresh perspective on rituals, mantras, festivals, and pilgrimages. Uncover its role in family constellation therapy and its impact on learning. See how our own lives, like the evolutionary process itself, depend on an interplay between habits and creativity. Join Rupert on this enlightening journey as he unravels the enigma of morphic resonance, a theory that could forever change the way we perceive reality.

There will be a live online Q&A session for participants in this course on November 22, 2023. Participants will be notified of the details nearer the time.

Morphic Resonance and Memory

Join IONS Fellow Rupert Sheldrake, PhD, as he discusses the process of morphic resonance and how it plays into our inherent memory and systems. According to his hypothesis of formative causation, all self-organizing systems, including crystals, organisms, and societies are organized by morphic fields which contain an inherent memory. This is given by the previously mentioned process of morphic resonance from previous similar systems. By this process, all human beings draw upon a collective human memory, similar to Jung’s collective unconscious, and in turn contribute to it.

As part of this event, Rupert will discuss how even individual memory depends on morphic resonance rather than on physical memory traces stored within the brain.  Attempts by neuroscientists to locate memory traces in brains have failed over and over again, probably because they are not there.  If memories are not stored in brains, then they need not be destroyed at death when the brain decays. Social groups also carry memories in their organizing fields, which may underlie family patterns that recur over the generations, and morphic resonance makes family constellation therapy easier to understand.

Truth Medicine: Transformation Through Psychedelic Therapy

With the global shift toward potentially accepting psychedelic therapy as an evidence-based treatment for a variety of mental health issues, it becomes increasingly important for people struggling and the therapists who treat these conditions, to better understand and be prepared for the innovative use of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. How does psychedelic therapy benefit the individual, our communities, and specialized groups like first responders and combat veterans? And what actually occurs in a session, in group settings, and on retreats that make this therapy so revolutionary? And is this treatment right for everyone, and if not, why, and who would be excluded?

The core message of IONS Fellow Michael Sapiro’s work is that truth heals wounds and leads to transformation, and that psychedelic therapy is the most powerful and accelerated intervention we have to date. Discovering, exposing, speaking, and ultimately living one’s truth has been the missing component in traditional psychotherapy. Truth Medicine explores these topics from a heart-centered, integrative approach, looking at how psychedelic psychotherapy addresses healing and transformation on a variety of levels, including the physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual.

Mental Health & Well-Being Global Summit

Most of us have been affected in some way by the current mental health crisis. The good news is that there is a mental health renaissance underway that offers real hope and new solutions for mental health and well-being.

More people are talking openly and honestly about their mental health than ever before. Stigma has been substantially reduced, and everyone from kids, elite athletes, celebrities and late-night talk show hosts—as well as us everyday people—are being more open and vulnerable about what we are experiencing.

Not only that, there are dozens of new, emerging, evidence-based approaches to mental health and well-being that are making a significant difference in people’s lives.

And…rather than waiting until mental health becomes a crisis, we are beginning to be able to build in whole-person—body-mind-spirit—ways to restore emotional balance and build psychological resilience starting right from the beginning—in kids, families, and society.

There are so many whole-person approaches that are providing tremendous help for overcoming—and avoiding—mental health challenges.

This event features more than 60 presenters, including Deepak Chopra MD, Gabor Maté MD, don Miguel Ruiz, IONS Fellows Michael Sapiro PsyD and Cassandra Vieten PhD.

The Summit will also feature an exclusive free screening of the stunning and widely-acclaimed film THE WISDOM OF TRAUMA.

Join the Summit today and be part of this powerful mental health movement that is underway.
