The Edgar Mitchell Overview Effect Virtual Reality Experience (EMVRX) is going LIVE!

Inspired by Captain Mitchell’s epiphany in space, the phrase “Overview Effect” signifies the awe and self-transcendent feelings of Oneness that many astronauts experience upon seeing Earth from space. Join us as we hear from members of the VRX project team about bringing Edgar’s legacy to life through this short space VR production, and about it’s promise and potential as a tool to evoke an Overview Effect — feelings of profound connection, compassion and self-transcendence — even while Earthbound.

Convened by EMVRX executive producer and IONS board chairman Claudia Welss, we’ll hear from Dr. Cassandra Vieten, producer, IONS Fellow and former President/CEO; Bristol Baughan, co-director and producer of Emmy-winning and Oscar-Nominated films; David Whelan, co-director and CEO of Immersive VR Education; Loren Carpenter, executive producer, IONS scientist and co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios; Rev. Jeremy Nickel, Founder of EvolVR, the world’s first VR sangha and spiritual community; Robert Alexander, composer and CEO of AuraLab; and, of course, Apollo 14 astronaut and IONS founder Ed Mitchell, as his voice narrates the Edgar Mitchell Overview Effect VR Experience.

Special Bonus!

Before the program starts:
Five minutes before our program begins (at 10:55), we’ll show a 5-minute animated video depicting a Saturn V rocket (Apollo 11) from launch to splashdown, explaining the sequence of events leading to the lunar module landing on the moon and reuniting with the command and service modules.

At the program’s conclusion:
You’re invited to join us in an open community Overview Meditation with EvolVR’s Dr. Jeremy Nickel in Altspace. EvolVR is described as the world’s first virtual reality sangha. Our avatars will begin on Earth’s surface (video) and rise to low Earth orbit during a guided meditation. If you have a virtual reality headset, click here for set-up directions; or, if you have a PC, you can join us in a 2D format.

The last of three deep dives into the IONS Energy Healing Pilot Study

In a typical energy medicine session, the practitioner focuses on the health and healing of the specific client. However, the very idea of this healing modality suggests a “field-like” phenomenon. Fields are generally not localized, but extend through space. This raises the question as to whether the application of energy medicine also extends beyond the practitioner and the specific client.

To help find out, in our recent energy medicine pilot study we looked to both water and a quantum number generator (QNG), placing water samples and a QNG system in the shielded room during a session between an energy medicine practitioner and a client seeking health improvements. The results of this pilot study reveal that both the water and the QNG showed significant changes during healing. This suggests that energy medicine does indeed behave in a field-like manner, and that it can also influence objective aspects of the environment.

Join us for a free webinar where IONS Scientists Dr. Dean Radin and Loren Carpenter delve into the mysteries of water and energy healing.

What role does the heart play in energy healing?

An innovative component of IONS recent pilot study of energy medicine modalities was the synchronized collection of heart waves (electrocardiography, or ECG) of both the participant and the energy medicine practitioner. As part of our effort to understand what makes energy medicine work, this particular line of data collection allows us to analyze the results in unique ways that we hope will help to illuminate the mechanisms of action for energy healing modalities.

Join Drs. Helané Wahbeh and Arnaud Delorme as they share the results of this pilot study, including how participants’ heart waves changed from the beginning to the end of the energy medicine session and the similarities of participant and practitioner signals.

Despite growing evidence of the positive health benefits of some energy medicine modalities, there is no consensus within the scientific community for how energy medicine works. In an effort to fill in the gaps of our knowledge, IONS conducted a large pilot study to better understand the effects of energy medicine and find clues regarding it’s mechanism of action — the means by which these modalities can affect the body.

In this pilot study, energy medicine practitioners conducted sessions with individuals suffering hand and wrist pain. One particularly unique aspect to the design of this research project was the inclusion of a clairvoyant seer present in the room for all the sessions, who observed the event from an energetic level and recorded her perceptions. In including this seer our goal was to explore the questions:

  1. How do energy medicine sessions function from the perspective of a clairvoyant seer?
  2. Do any of these observations relate to changes in the participants’ subjective pain?

Join us for a free webinar where Drs. Helané Wahbeh and Garret Yount will review the results of this data and discuss the implications of their findings.

In investigating more than 2,500 individuals from around the world, researchers have uncovered many cases which identified a deceased person whose life story matches the details given by the child. Common features of these cases include: a child speaking of a past life at a very early age; behaviors that appear connected to a past life, such as phobias related to the mode of death; and birthmarks or birth defects that correspond to wounds of the deceased person.

The presentation will include a review of the decades of research as well as the details of recent American cases.

Shifting Ageism: How Consciousness Affects Our Experience of Aging

ConnectIONS Live!

While aging is universal, our individual experience of the process is impacted by, among other factors, our beliefs, our resources and demographics. For ourselves, our communities and our planet, how we age today is unsustainable unless we can shift our consciousness about aging. That consciousness, in turn, can help us better understand our interconnectedness and allow us to shift toward aging in a way that feels more connected, empowering and transformative. Join our panel of experts for a discussion about cultural and personal perspectives on growing older, as well as what some have called the inherent noetic nature of aging. Together, we will have the opportunity to consider a shift in our consciousness, beliefs and attitudes about the inevitable process of getting older.

Standing Strong: Noetic Resilience in Challenging Times

ConnectIONS Live!

What is noetic resilience? Join us on Friday October 2nd for an experiential webinar exploring four noetic approaches that can help create a robust sense of well-being and thriving through times of crisis. When confronted with ongoing threats and challenges, every one of us can fall into tensing, checking out, becoming immobile, defended, isolated, fearful and anxious, or knocked off balance. This is our opportunity to build greater levels of flexible strength, so we can bend, and not break, in the windstorms of life. Based on the latest science of stress resilience, IONS Fellows Cassandra Vieten and Michael Sapiro will share noetic practices to cultivate hope, flexible, resolute strength of being, and connecting with what remains unchanged within us.
