Join researcher and author Michael Mannion and IONS scientist Garret Yount, PhD, for a lively conversation exploring the life and legacy of the pioneering physician-scientist Wilhelm Reich and his provocative ideas about orgone energy, consciousness, and unidentified anomalous phenomena.
Together, they will examine who Reich was, the origins of his concept of orgone energy, and why he became one of the first scientists to take reports of UFOs seriously, not from a sensational perspective, but as a scientific question worthy of investigation. The discussion will place Reich’s thinking in the historical context of the early 1950s, when a small number of respected scientists and military officials openly grappled with reports of unidentified anomalous phenomena despite widespread skepticism.
The conversation will also explore how attitudes toward UFOs and the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligence have evolved over the past seven decades, including recent government disclosures and advances in astrophysics that have renewed scientific interest in questions once considered beyond the pale. Finally, the presenters will consider Reich’s broader scientific legacy and discuss whether aspects of his work on energy, coherence, and the nature of life may have been ahead of their time.

PRESENTERS
Michael Mannion, co-founder of The Mindshift Institute, has been a professional writer/editor since 1975, focusing on medicine, health, and new science. He has published a number books on these subjects. In addition, he has written articles, produced conferences, and given talks about the medical and scientific work of the pioneering physician-scientist Wilhelm Reich. His work is also available on the Ejournal of The Mindshift Institute and on Substack.
Mr. Mannion is the author of Project Mindshift – The Re-Education of the American Public Concerning Extraterrestrial Life and three published novels, Death Cloud; Colleen; and Erin’s Daughters. He is currently writing a book about the work of Wilhelm Reich.
Garret Yount, PhD, is a molecular neurobiologist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) where his research focuses on laboratory-based models of exceptional human abilities. He obtained his BS from the Department of Molecular & Cell Biology at the Pennsylvania State University and his PhD from the Department of Neurobiology & Behavior at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He began his formal studies in consciousness research with a small grant from the Institute of Noetic Sciences in 1995, which allowed him to work with biofield practitioners and spiritual healers in the laboratory. Since then, Dr. Yount has conducted carefully controlled laboratory experiments with spiritual healers and biofield practitioners from around the world, including China, Brazil, Canada, USA, Japan, India, Russia, Hungary, and Sri Lanka, and was fortunate to be among the first scientists to be awarded a Research Project Grant (R01) from the National Institutes of Health to study energy healing. He is the author of many peer-reviewed scientific papers and the book Why Vibes Matter: Understand Your Energy and Learn How to Use it Wisely.
