At IONS, each one of our scientists and fellows are experts in their domains. Their curiosity and willingness to research the unknown is part of what leaves us awe-inspired by their work, including IONS Fellow Michael Sapiro, PsyD.
Michael is a clinical psychologist, psychedelic-assisted therapist, writer, meditation teacher and researcher, and former Buddhist monk. His work has explored how to best bring elements of mysticism to both the public and mainstream medical fields. He was introduced to IONS in 2010 through IONS past president, Cassandra Vieten, PhD, also a fellow. Together, they have collaborated to share noetic practices focused on cultivating hope, flexibility, and resolute strength during challenging times.
Michael has worked as a transformational coach for world-class and world-renowned musicians, athletes, former special operations veterans, scientists, authors, and playwrights. He is trained by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), is on faculty at Esalen Institute, and is core faculty in the Psychedelic’s Today Vital psychedelic certification program. He recently completed a study on time travel, hope, and love with another IONS Fellow, Julia Mossbridge, PhD, of The Institute for Love and Time.
Michael teaches nationally on the art and science of transformation, expanded human capabilities, and futuremaking. He is the integrative psychologist at the Boise Ketamine Clinic, where he offers Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (individual KAP and group KAT) sessions for first responders and community members. He is an integrative coach and consultant with VETS Solutions, Seal Future Foundation, and Sabot Foundation, helping former Navy Seals and other special operations team members recover from combat exposure with psychedelic-assisted therapy and integration coaching. He also works therapeutically with first responders (police, SWAT, and Fire). He hosted a syndicated radio program on expanded human potential called Radio Awakened out of KRBX, now found on Soundcloud.
Michael’s efforts and commitment to breaking away from the conventions of mainstream medicine in pursuit of solutions with clear impact is part of what makes him such an invaluable fellow at IONS.
