Live from the Archive: Consciousness & Healing

We’ve all heard extraordinary stories about the capacity of the body to heal that leave western medical science perplexed. A terminally ill cancer patient whose tumor dissolved overnight, a quadraplegic who walks again with no explanation, and countless anecdotes of healers and shamans that produce results that seem to defy any modern scientific understanding.

Could consciousness be the missing key to a deeper understanding of these miraculous healings? If so, what role does consciousness play in healing? This is one of many questions that IONS scientists have been exploring over the past four decades. Using the tools of scientific research, many facets of the mind-body connection have been studied, including spontaneous remission, distant healing, placebo effects, meditation, and visualization.

As we move into the end of the year, we’ll be releasing exciting news on our most recent groundbreaking study, the Exceptional Healers Pilot Study but before we do that, we wanted to take a moment to peek back into our archives and share with you some of what we have already discovered on this fascinating topic.
