The IONS Science Team is working on an exciting, new ground-breaking research study — Exceptional Healers Pilot Study, evaluating the effectiveness of energy medicine modalities on carpal tunnel pain. Recruitment for participants and volunteers has just begun!
This pilot study represents a first step in which we will evaluate different energy healing modalities (e.g. quantum healing, medical intuition, hands-on energy healing, and other modalities). Our goal in this study is to discover and/or develop objective ways to measure the shifts in subtle energy during and after certain energy modalities and evaluate the mechanisms by which improvements or changes in the human body occur or alleviate symptoms in those suffering from carpal tunnel pain.
In addition to the healing session with a professional energy healer, study participants will get to experience the IONS Discovery Lab (IDL) survey using our online system. The IONS Discovery Lab is our newest research initiative that will be the largest study ever conducted on how transformative practices and experiences influence well-being, creativity, intuition, and extraordinary human capacities.
The study will also utilize a small wet lab for saliva collection and processing, as well as a big lab for the nerve conduction measurements, including a electromagnetically shielded room, for the healing sessions, ECG, EEG, and water properties analysis.
We are currently seeking 240 participants experiencing carpal tunnel syndrome who would like to reduce or alleviate that pain. Participants must be 18 years or older and have proof (health provider’s note from a physician, chiropractor and/or acupuncturist) of carpal tunnel symptoms and/or diagnosis. Clients who are pregnant and/or have pacemakers cannot participate in this study. Participants must be willing to travel to the IONS campus, in Petaluma, CA (travel costs are not reimbursed) for a specified appointment and a three-week follow up appointment.
The first session entails the participants sitting during an energy healing session with a professional energy medicine practitioner. Before the first visit, participants will be asked to complete the IDL survey online. The first visit will last approximately three hours (total), including the up to 30-minute healing session, as well as a saliva collection, nerve conduction measurements (non-invasive surface electrodes will be placed on the hands wrists-you may feel a slight tingle), ECG, evaluation for changes in water molecules, and other surveys before and after the healing session.
The second visit (three week follow-up) will last about 1.5 hours and will consist of only a saliva collection, nerve conduction measurements, EEG and and surveys. After the completion of the second visit, participants will be given a $50 Visa Gift Card as a THANK YOU for contributing to this pilot study.
We are also seeking volunteers to assist us in this exciting new research study from April – July, 2019. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our research team and learn about SpitGene testing (isolating neutrophils-a type of immune cell-for future gene activity analyses), nerve conduction velocity (how fast an electrical current runs through the Sciatic Nerve), water evanescence (changes in water molecule bonding), and working with study participants..
We will need volunteers from 8:20 am-5:30 pm (M-F) to help escort patients on the days of healing (we understand if you are only able to volunteer in the mornings or afternoons).
