For nearly five decades, IONS has been devoted to studying various forms of knowing. What we mean by knowing is how people receive information from the interconnected field of consciousness — beyond traditional concepts of space and time. Some of these ways of knowing include, but are not limited to, intuition, telepathy, clairvoyance, clairaudience, precognition, etc. We each have an individual and unique way of accessing or expressing this information and energy, like a thumbprint. At IONS, we refer to this as your “Noetic Signature.” Researching this phenomenon is one of IONS main research focuses right now.
There is growing evidence that many of these abilities are “real” phenomena. These experiences may play an important role in our day-to-day lives. They may also play an important role in our society. The COVID pandemic has certainly been a global lesson for many of us dealing with uncertainty, change, and the unpredictable. Some of us may have thought something along the lines of “I felt something like this would happen, but didn’t know it would be like this” or “If only we had known…” Some of us may have even had an unexplainable dream, body sensation, a feeling, or perhaps just a thought about an upcoming experience. These are called premonitions, precognition, or presentiment. All these experiences relate to knowing something before it happens whether you think it or feel it in your body.
Several studies have been, and continue to be, conducted around these noetic experiences and investigating whether certain individuals are more predisposed to have noetic experiences than others. Two examples of this are research studies happening at IONS currently: the IONS Discovery Lab study and the Noetic Signature Study. IONS Chief Scientist, Dean Radin, PhD, has also been running a study about psychic abilities, GotPsi?, for almost 20 years! Also several of our IONS science fellows, such as Julia Mossbridge, PhD, and Rupert Sheldrake, PhD, are conducting their own studies on these concepts (find links to these studies below). These research studies help us learn if there are patterns in the nature of these experiences and the practices and tools used to access them.
Do you think you have psi or extended human capacities? Check out our IONS Participate in Research page, which includes IONS studies as well as studies from our IONS science fellows, on topics like telepathy and intuition. You can also participate in Dean Radin’s “GotPsi?” experiment here and explore your own abilities to access information beyond space and time.
Additionally, you may be interested in our upcoming Noetic Global Gathering: The Science of Mediumship with IONS Scientist, Arnaud Delorme, PhD, on May 20th at 2:00 pm (Pacific Time). This Global Gathering will focus on unusual psychological phenomena — when individuals claim to have access to information not available through traditional notions of space and time (e.g. psi, telepathy, channeling, etc.). Participants on this webinar will have the unique opportunity to test their own intuitive abilities in an interactive experience similar to mediums in the study.
