This open-label pilot study explores whether a handheld ultrasound device (US Pro2000) can safely and effectively improve memory and cognitive function in individuals experiencing memory difficulties, including those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Led by Dr. Helané Wahbeh at IONS, with collaborators Dr. Stuart Hameroff and Sterling Cooley, participants self-administer ultrasound stimulation at home over several weeks while tracking changes in cognition, mood, and quality of life. The study also has potential implications for understanding the role of microtubules in consciousness, connecting to the orchestrated objective reduction (Orc-OR) theory. If successful, this research could help advance innovative, noninvasive treatment options for cognitive impairment. The study is actively enrolling participants to formally evaluate earlier promising anecdotal results.
