Exploring the Frontiers of Consciousness: Mediumship, Meditation & Citizen Science with Muse EEG

May 2, 2025 11:00 am - 12:00 pm (PDT)

ConnectIONS Live!

What happens in the brain during mediumship? How do different meditation practices impact well-being and physiology? Join IONS scientists and partners as they reveal groundbreaking research using Muse brain (EEG) and heart wave (PPG) technology and the power of Citizen Science to explore the frontiers of consciousness.

This event will feature two pioneering studies:

Mediumship Study – Investigating the brain activity of mediums as they access information beyond ordinary perception, offering new insights into consciousness.

Citizen Science Meditation Study – The largest of its kind, inviting thousands to explore how different meditation techniques affect mental and physical health, with an opportunity for public participation.

Collaboration and partnerships are at the heart of innovation, and we are thrilled to be partnering with Muse on these projects. By joining forces, IONS and Muse are pushing the boundaries of consciousness research and creating impactful opportunities for citizen scientists. This synergy is a testament to the power of working together to explore uncharted territories and expand our understanding of the mind.

Be part of this exciting conversation and discover how you can contribute to cutting-edge research from home. Whether you’re curious about the neuroscience of mediumship, the science of meditation, or eager to engage in Citizen Science, this is your chance to connect with the latest discoveries in noetic research.

PRESENTERS

Helané Wahbeh, ND, MCR Helané Wahbeh, ND, MCR, is the Director of Research at the Institute of Noetic Sciences and an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University. Helané is clinically trained as a naturopathic physician and research trained with a Master of Clinical Research and two post-doctoral research fellowships. She has published on and spoken internationally about her studies on complementary and alternative medicine, mind-body medicine, extended human capacities, stress, posttraumatic stress disorder and their relationships to physiology, health, and healing. Dr. Wahbeh is especially known for her research around — and noetic approach to — channeling.

Arnaud Delorme, PhDArnaud Delorme, PhD, is a neuroscientist at IONS and has been studying human consciousness for the last 20 years. He is a CNRS Research Director in Toulouse, France, and a senior Research Scientist at the University of California, San Diego. He is a long-time Zen meditator, and recipient of several research prizes. He is the author of some 160+ peer-reviewed publications, and is best known for his work on the neural correlate of mind wandering and for developing the EEG software that is now the most-used in EEG research worldwide. He is the author of Why Our Minds Wander: Understand the Science and Learn to Focus Your Thoughts.

Chris AimoneChris Aimone is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Interaxon Muse. In this role, Chris combines a rich background in technology and innovation with a strong passion for human-centered design. At Interaxon Muse, he focuses on developing brain-sensing technologies that empower individuals to understand and enhance their cognitive and emotional well-being. Aimone’s work integrates insights from neuroscience, psychology, and technology to create products that are not only technologically advanced but also accessible and beneficial for users. His leadership in technology development and commitment to improving mental health through innovative solutions have positioned Interaxon Muse as a leader in the field of brain-computer interfaces. Chris has specifically studied the relationship between EEG changes and meditation since 2010 and is the author of several patents in this domain. He and his team have developed machine learning models to analyze meditation data from the Muse device, and to compare novel data to the 1 billion minutes of pre-existing Muse meditation and sleep session data.
