The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) is proud to announce the launch of The Science of Life: Exploring Biology and Consciousness, a free curriculum designed for high school educators and curious learners. This resource arrives at a pivotal time: today’s students are entering a rapidly changing world and approaching science with an unprecedented openness to questions about life, consciousness, and the nature of reality.

A Complement to Traditional Science Education

Developed to complement traditional biology education, the curriculum bridges established scientific principles with emerging insights from the study of consciousness. It encourages students to explore fundamental biological concepts while engaging with profound questions that sit at the intersection of science and philosophy, including:

  • What is life?
  • How do we define consciousness?
  • How might the living world be more interconnected than we imagine?

The curriculum package includes a full outline, sample lesson plans, and hands-on experiment ideas — providing educators with flexible tools to spark curiosity, discussion, and critical thinking in the classroom.

Helping Students Think More Deeply about their Role in the World

“High school students today are more receptive than ever to exploring ideas that challenge traditional boundaries of science,” said an educator from Pennsylvania. “This curriculum gives teachers a structured way to introduce questions of consciousness alongside traditional biology lessons, helping students think deeply about the living world and their role within it.”

Whether used in the classroom, at home, or in community learning settings, The Science of Life empowers young learners to ask bold questions, develop critical thinking skills, and connect with science in a meaningful, interdisciplinary way.

The curriculum is available for free, and IONS invites educators, parents, and community members to explore and integrate these materials into learning experiences that inspire curiosity and broaden perspectives.
