Occasionally, we feature guest bloggers and stories from our collaborators. This personal story is from Katie Miranda, who recently interviewed Helané. We hope you enjoy it!
The topic of manifesting first became intriguing to me in 2016 when I went on a date with someone I’d met online who would eventually become my future husband. As it turned out, he bore an uncanny resemblance to a picture I had drawn a year earlier.
How I manifested my son
I was 43 when we got married and doctors told me that due to my age, there was less than a 1% chance I could have a baby. My husband suggested that since I had drawn and then manifested him, I should try to draw our future baby. Our son was born healthy and happy when I was 45, about a year and a half after I drew him. This strange story kicked-off my interest in finding out what was underneath these low-probability events. I didn’t know what all of this meant, and I wanted to. Part of being human is wanting to fit pieces together and make sense of them whenever possible.
Over the next few years, I read and listened to everything I could get my hands on about manifestation, how and why it works, and the science behind it. It was during the process of hosting manifesting summits and appearing at others’ summits that, by chance, I caught an interview with IONS board member and author Mark Gober. I immediately purchased his book, An End to Upside Down Thinking. Calling this book a rabbit hole would be a massive understatement, but a pivotal moment was discovering the scientific research conducted by IONS into manifestation for the first time.
An IONS time-loop
What began as an all-consuming interest in manifestation several years ago has now come full circle, completing a delightful little time loop—an incident from the past, when I happened to hear about Mark Gober, now neatly resolved and tied up with a perfect bow. I am honored to be interviewing IONS very own Dr. Helané Wahbeh about her research into the science of intention and how intention affects the physical world, whether the intention is directed at cells in a petri dish or at a human in another room.
The interview with Dr. Wahbeh and others is part of a 20-speaker series called Manifesting Masterclass: How high achievers can get out of their own way and take committed action so they can manifest their dreams.
Insights Gained
One of the biggest takeaways from interviewing people from 20 different spiritual perspectives on manifesting, including Christians, Muslims, Shamans, mediums, scientists, channeled beings, and atheists, is the importance of combining doing and being. Another way to say this is that the person must be internally aligned with their goal and do the concrete, real-life work to make it happen. You cannot just do one without the other.
This was incredibly eye-opening for me because it indicated there are some universal truths to manifesting regardless of whether you think they come from God, the Universe, angels, or just from your own grit and hard work.
Another pattern I saw from all of the speakers is the concept of belief in oneself. If someone has limiting beliefs, whether stemming from childhood or from adverse experiences as an adult, these can hold them back. To achieve their goal, the person must truly believe it is actually possible. Releasing yourself from these limiting beliefs is easier than you might think, and some of the speakers offer free supplemental exercises for viewers to try. Dr. Wahbeh specifically discusses how manifestation requires alignment between our intentions and our inner beliefs. If we are out of alignment—such as carrying unhelpful childhood programming—our efforts to manifest something will be hindered.
