IONS Chief Scientist Dean Radin was featured in a recent Popular Mechanics article, Everything in the Universe—Even Aliens—May Share a Form of Consciousness, Scientists Say.

It focused on the subject of panpsychism alongside fellow experts in the field including Founding Director of FAU’s Center for the Future Mind Susan Schneider, neuroscientist Christof Koch, physicist Paul Davies, philosopher Philip Goff and Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the SETI Institute.

The article, written by Stav Dimitropoulos, explores the concept of consciousness in the context of potential extraterrestrial life, examining the idea that consciousness might be a fundamental aspect of the universe, rather than an emergent property of complex systems like brains. This perspective is rooted in panpsychism, which she describes as an ancient theory suggesting that consciousness could be a ubiquitous feature of the universe like gravity.

Psychic Abilities and UAPs

As Dean Radin suggested, understanding alien consciousness might require models which incorporate psychic (psi) phenomena including extended human capacities like telepathy and other paranormal abilities which currently exceed mainstream scientific explanations. “Adequate models of psi phenomena will probably require philosophies that look a lot like panpsychism.”

IONS’ Guiding Hypothesis states that everything is interconnected. By embodying an awareness of this interconnection, we can tap into information and energy not limited by space and time, and profounding amplify transformation, innovation, and well-being. As IONS continues to explore UAPs, we remain curious about how they may be able to help us better understand the nature of consciousness throughout the cosmos.
