Do you ever know or feel what someone else feels or thinks? Have you sensed a loved one’s emotions without speaking a word, or felt your twin’s presence even when apart? These kinds of experiences, often called “telepathic,” are at the heart of our Mind2Mind study.
We’re inviting people who share a close emotional bond and frequently have these experiences to join us as we explore the fascinating phenomenon of mind-to-mind communication. The goal is to identify 100 pairs of people with strong telepathic-type bonds to participate in consciousness research. You can watch a short video about the study here.
Challenges with Recruitment and Retention
While the enthusiasm for this study has been incredible, we’ve also encountered some challenges along the way:
A lot of initial applicants weren’t able to finish with a partner. Many people signed up initially with a partner, but weren’t able to share the same commitment to finish the study, which has been a barrier for some.
The study requires focus. To keep participants engaged, we’ve designed the activities to feel more like games than tests. Even so, the tasks require attention, patience, and healthy cognitive functioning to complete successfully. Unfortunately, because our attention spans as a society have noticeably decreased, it’s become more difficult to appeal to participants who may not want to take a series of surveys and activities.
Fewer strong connections in modern times. In today’s busy world, personal connections can sometimes feel like they’re decreasing. But if you do have a strong bond with someone—especially one that feels telepathic—this is exactly the kind of connection we want to study.
The Modern Landscape and Fewer Connections
In today’s busy, digital world, many people experience fewer long-lasting, deeply bonded relationships. Shifting lifestyles, online interactions, and the pace of modern life often make it harder to nurture and sustain those meaningful connections.
Yet it is precisely those enduring, meaningful connections—the kind that often lead to moments of “telepathic knowing”—that are most essential to advancing this research. These bonds remind us that human beings are not only social creatures, but perhaps connected in ways that go beyond traditional communication.
If you and someone you know share such a bond, your connection could make a critical difference in helping us explore the possibilities of mind-to-mind communication. In contributing to this study, you are also helping us highlight the value of human connection at a time when such bonds feel more important than ever.
Why This Work Matters
The Mind2Mind Study is about more than testing for telepathic communication. It is about exploring the profound, often unseen ways in which we may be connected, and advancing scientific understanding of consciousness itself. At IONS, we believe these connections are not only meaningful on a personal level, but also key to broadening the horizons of science and human potential.
A few participants who completed the study showed gratitude for the study and shared their positive sentiment:
“[We] both enjoyed participating in the study. We are both so grateful for what IONS is doing!” – Alma
“Being able to participate was such an honor and I’m really grateful that you invited me to be a part of it.” – Kellie
“You’re doing such innovative, valuable work and I’m really glad we could participate.” – Lianne
By participating, you and your partner can also help shape the future of noetic science and contribute to one of the most important frontiers of human exploration: the possibility that our minds are not isolated, but interconnected.
Join the Mind2Mind Study
If you and your partner share a strong bond and feel called to participate, we invite you to learn more and take part in this unique opportunity. Together, you can help us shed light on the mystery of human connection and contribute to rigorous scientific research that may one day redefine how we understand communication, consciousness, and community.
