With the growing credibility of UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) investigations appearing in the news, it’s worth noting that IONS founder and NASA astronaut, Edgar Mitchell, is considered a grandfather of the Modern UFO Disclosure movement. To celebrate what would have been his 93rd birthday on September 17th, IONS stepped deeper into the final frontier of consciousness by considering this aspect of Edgar’s legacy during an online program two days earlier.
Joining me was Dr. Thomas Brophy and Dr. Sean Esbjörn-Hargens, both of the California Institute of Human Science, and Mark Gober, IONS Board member and author of “An End to Upside Down Contact.”
Besides being a tireless advocate for “ending the embargo on the truth,” Edgar developed a Quantum Holography Theory that helped provide a scientific foundation for understanding the interrelationship between UFOs and ET contact modalities with other contact modalities that IONS has been investigating — like out-of-body experiences (OBEs), channeling, telepathy and remote viewing — throughout our 50-year history.
We started by hearing from Edgar himself, through a 2009 recording of a keynote address at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The program, entitled “Are We Alone in the Universe?,” was really about what the near-certainty that we’re NOT alone in the Universe means for our understanding of the true nature of reality, and of our own true nature as part of an intelligent cosmos full of life. Beyond what may be going on “out there,” we began making the connection to what’s going on “in here” — within the consciousness of each one of us, and within the collective consciousness of humanity as a whole. That’s why, during the program, I announced that after keeping a watchful distance on the topics of UFOs and reported visitations by off-planet intelligences, September’s program marked the beginning of a new strategic engagement for IONS as part of our exploration of the true nature of reality. I closed the program with this quote from Rabindranath Tagore: “The traveler has to knock at every alien door to come to his own, and one has to wander through all the outer worlds to reach the innermost shrine at the end.”
Why is IONS engaging with this topic now? Because humanity seems to have collectively arrived at what’s being called “our ET moment,” and it’s all about consciousness. The United States Congress recently passed legislation mandating that all government agencies and contracting corporations release their UFO-related material to a special office being set up to assess and disclose this material to the public. What we learn will increase the already intense evolutionary pressure on the human psyche, and on the modern world’s dominant materialist paradigm. How we use these evolutionary opportunities will determine if we experience a collective breakdown, or breakthrough.
