Cassandra Vieten, PhD

President and Senior Scientist

Cassandra Vieten, PhD, is President and Senior Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, San Diego, and Associated Faculty at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Her research has focused on spirituality and health, transformative experiences and practices, and the development of mindfulness-based interventions for emotional well-being. Her primary interest lies in how psychology, biology, and spirituality interact to affect experience and behavior.

She received her PhD in clinical psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, and completed her research training in behavioral genetics at The University of California, San Francisco. She is author of Mindful Motherhood: Practical Tools for Staying Sane During Pregnancy and Your Child’s First Year, and coauthor of Living Deeply: The Art and Science of Transformation in Everyday Life, and Spiritual Competencies in Clinical Practice: Guidelines for Psychologists and Mental Health Professionals. She has published numerous articles in scientific journals, is an internationally recognized speaker and workshop leader, and is a Huffington Post and Psychology Today blogger. Her current research focuses on meditation, extraordinary experiences, worldview transformation, virtual reality approaches to inducing awe, and spirituality and mental health. She’s a mom and loves singing, soccer, nature, and travel.
