Mediumship Study Update

October 15, 2012

In our last Breaking News we mentioned analyzing data for a study on mediumship. Some of you wanted more information…

This study, funded by the Bial Foundation, is being conducted in collaboration with our colleagues at The Windbridge Institute, an independent research organization investigating the capabilities of our bodies, minds, and spirits, and attempting to determine how the resulting information can best serve all living things. Their Survival of Consciousness research area is focused on studying mediums and the information they report, investigating technologies that may be useful in enhancing interaction and communication with the deceased (i.e., instrumental transcommunication or ITC), and addressing reports of haunting and apparition phenomena using both field and laboratory methods.

Dr. Julie Beischel, Director of Research at the Windbridge Institute, along with the research team at The Windbridge Institute and a panel of Windbridge Certified Research Mediums (who have participated in a vetting and training program to become skilled research participants), are collaborating with Arnaud Delorme, Visiting Scholar at IONS, Dean Radin, IONS Senior Scientist, and Paul Mills, Professor in Residence at the University of California, San Diego, to study the neurophysiological correlates of mediumship by examining EEG patterns when mediums conduct readings under a quintuple-blind protocol that controls for alternative explanations for the accurate information they obtain during the readings.

The study is exploring what happens in the electrocortical activity of mediums during different conditions. More specific information about the study and results will be available once the journal articles are published in 2013.

We’re excited to be collaborating in this groundbreaking research, and we’ll be sure to let you know what the results are!
