EarthRise is now certified as a green business, and construction on new eco-friendly lodging will begin soon!

Sept. 27, 2013 – IONS is thrilled to announce that EarthRise, our 194 acre campus at the border of Marin and Sonoma counties, is now a certified member of the Marin County Green Business Program—part of the Bay Area Green Business Program. This voluntary program recognizes and promotes businesses and organizations that implement environmentally responsible practices. The Green Business Program certifies that businesses meet higher standards of environmental performance such as using energy efficient processes, conserving water, recycling, using recycled products, reducing pollutants, and much more.

To receive this certification IONS EarthRise went through a detailed process to comply with more than 83 required, as well as additional, measures. This Green Business Certification is one component of the Institute of Noetic Sciences’ wider commitment to sustainability and caring for the earth and its inhabitants, and to developing EarthRise into a world-class model of sustainability.

Eco-friendly Lodging and Landscape

In collaboration with Healthy Buildings of Napa, CA, we are planning to incorporate earth-friendly renewable resources—like solar, recycled building materials, and water reclamation systems—into new campus lodging and the landscape. The County of Marin has just approved the planning permit for the first stage of this development, which includes new lodging. We expect to see the first new lodge buildings early in 2014.

About the video on this page:

This short video debuted at IONS' 40th anniversary celebration at EarthRise Center on January 20th, 2013. This was the opening day of our new Environmental Education Center, which showcases plans to develop EarthRise into one of the most environmentally sustainable retreat, education, and research centers in the world.

The video paints a picture of the breadth of work IONS has been engaged in for the past 40 years, and looks ahead to the creation of a 'global wisdom center' on a truly sustainable campus where this work can expand and flourish. This new sustainability project has roots in the vision and dreams of IONS leadership stretching back to our founder, astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who saw the beauty and fragility of our home planet from the window seat of a spacecraft.

Our partners at Healthy Buildings, an organization with 30 years of experience designing and building environmentally sustainable buildings and living environments, created this video for IONS.
