Lee Lipsenthal leads a panel on the Future of Integrated Health Care with Victoria Maizes and John Weeks for the Next Evolution of Health Summit.
Lee Lipsenthal, MD, is an internist with postgraduate training in cholesterol disorders and served as the Medical Director of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California with Dean Ornish for ten years. Lee consults with major medical centers, health research organizations, and corporations on health and wellness. He also teaches workshops and faculty, world-wide in the area of practitioner health and relationships, working with major organizations such as Kaiser-Permanente, Cleveland Clinic, the American Medical Association as well as many large universities, hospitals and medical groups. He is the Author of "Finding Balance in a Medical Life" as well as a chapter contributor to many medical textbooks. Lee is the past President of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine and is a certified shamanic breathwork facilitator.
Dr Victoria Maizes is Executive Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, and Professor of Medicine, Family and Community Medicine, and Public Health at the University of Arizona. Dr. Maizes is internationally recognized as a leader in integrative medicine. She stewarded the growth of the Program in Integrative Medicine from a small program educating four residential fellows per year to a Center of Excellence training over 250 fellows and residents annually. She helped develop the Center's curriculum in integrative medicine and pioneered multiple educational innovations including Integrative Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine in Residency, two national models for educating primary care physicians. As founding education co-chair of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine, Dr. Maizes led a team of educators to create objectives for medical students in integrative medicine. Dr. Maizes lectures worldwide to academic and community audiences on integrative medical education, women's health, healthy aging, nutrition, and cancer. In 2010, Integrative Women's Health, the Oxford University Press textbook she edited, was published. ODE magazine named Victoria Maizes one of the world's 25 intelligent optimists in 2009.
John Weeks has developed something of a unique niche role in the emerging integrative healthcare practices arena over the last 27year, including elements of reporting, organizing, commenting, consulting, cajoling, speaking, networking and serving in executive and board capacities. Weeks is publisher-editor of the Integrator Blog News & Reports (www.theintegratorblog.com) the leading media source on the policy, business and education in the integrative practice arena. Weeks’ work has been widely cited in diverse media such as the New York Times, Physician Executive, Medical Economics and Boston Globe. Weeks has had a lead role in organizing and directing a variety of coalitions and collaborations including the Integrative Medicine Industry Leadership Summits (2000-2002), Integrated Healthcare Policy Consortium (www.ihpc.info), National Education Dialogue to Advance Integrated Health Care (2004-2006), and the Academic Consortium for Complementary and Alternative Health Care (ACCAHC-www.accahc.org) for which he serves as executive director. He recently helped co-found the Naturopathic Physicians Research Institute (www.nprinstitute.org) to help foster a research agenda that better capture whole practice outcomes. Weeks attended Stanford University for 3 years, studying history.
