"Unexplained Mystery of Spontaneous Remission" with Brendan O'Regan (part 2 of 2)

Visionary: Brendan O'Regan

Part 1  |  Part 2

Since the 1970s, Brendan O’Regan was fascinated with spontaneous remission from normally fatal diseases, and committed to learning all he can of its occurrence. In this two-part audio presentation, Brendan provides an overview of the research findings he has uncovered and the results of his own data collection. In the course of describing his findings, he explores the possible existence of an unknown human “healing system” (separate yet related to the immune system) that lies dormant until challenged by illness, stress, or trauma. If only as a discussion device, this novel consideration of a new system is a helpful way to talk about healing and the ways that various recovery processes are mobilized in the body.

Both psychological and social factors seem to play a part in the occurrence of spontaneous remission, much like the better known placebo effect. While it is too soon and perhaps too simplistic to conclude there is a cause and effect relationship (far too many variables can confound these early research results), Brendan shares promising news about the factors that seem to occur in conjunction with remission. He offers evidence and cautious optimism about the medical community’s growing interest in learning more about the phenomenon, and the prospects for expanded research.

In Part 2 of the audio presentation, Brendan responds to questions on a wide range of topics, including the bizarre personality-specific occurrence of disease in patients with multiple personalities; the veracity (or lack thereof) of televised faith healing, and the potential damage from a misdiagnosis of a terminal disease – a negative manifestation of the placebo effect. He concludes with remarkable examples of individuals demonstrating their will to self-heal.
