Potluck dinner followed by a presentation with the 22-year-old twin sisters from India who are climbing the tallest mountains in each continent and breaking cultural boundaries to become role models for young people around the world.

About our Speakers

Nungshi and Tashi Malik are the first twin-duo to scale Mount Everest, and they have gone on to conquer the tallest peaks of Europe, Africa, Oceania, and South America. By the time they present their talk, they will also have climbed Alaska's Mt. McKinley. In addition to scaling the toughest mountains around the world, the Malik sisters are also climbing in popularity among young people both within and beyond their own country of India.

They made the news after they completed their 2013 Mt. Everest Expedition with Samina Baig of Pakistan, hoisting their national flags together at the summit and becoming symbols of strength and peace in both of these countries that have been clashing for decades.

Until fairly recently, India maintained long-held cultural traditions that encouraged far more passive roles for its young women, and the Maliks view their growing popularity as a responsibility they are committed to fulfilling in pursuit of peace and positive global transformation. Their goal is to help young people become responsible "global citizens" by increasing their awareness and leadership qualities through adventure, and ultimately to help them find peace within their hearts, where they believe peace really starts.

Nungshi holds a Bachelors degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, and has been involved in peace building efforts in Rwanda, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. In 2011, she studied conflict resolution in Vermont.

If you can, bring a young person to see this inspiring presentation and help Nungshi and Tashi along the path toward their most costly expedition yet, to the Antarctic and their seventh and final continent!
