Carl Jung is well known as the Swiss psychiatrist who advanced an exploration of one's individual psyche as a way to come into psychological healing and spiritual wholeness. The Red Book is Jung's personal journal where he fearlessly explored his own psyche through a series of active imaginations, and then worked to understand their meaning and significance. It is beautifully illustrated with Jung's calligraphy and paintings. Kept private by his family until its publication in 2009, many of the major concepts of Jung's psychology were derived from the sixteen years he spent working on it.

During this presentation, Lilan will focus on how The Red Book portrays Jung's journey to rediscover his Soul and re-envision his image of God. She will describe the various influences in Jung's life at the time he began the Red Book, and show many of the beautiful symbolic images painted by Jung. She will also give a brief overview of Jungian depth psychology and provide an opportunity to engage in an Active Imagination process. Active Imagination is a meditative method of self healing developed by Jung that uses the imagination in many different forms of expression including art, sand play, dreams, journaling, visualization, and inner dialogue. Active Imagination is a way to connect to the soul's more ethereal nature and bring it to a conscious understanding and physical reality.

Lilan Laishley has a PhD in Religious Studies with expertise in symbol and ritual. During her Master's degree in Counseling at Hunter College in NYC she did her thesis on Carl Jung's process of Individuation as demonstrated in the Major Arcana of the Tarot. She has continued to be influenced by Jung's work, most recently through a study of the Red Book and training in Active Imagination through the Chicago Jung Institute. Lilan is an Astrologer and Counselor living in Chattanooga, TN. You can read more about Lilan, inquire about the class, and sign up for her monthly Full Moon Letter at her website
