Phillip Moore became the director of Upland Hills School during the first school year in 1971-1972. His work with R. Buckminster Fuller's World Game and his understanding of the talks and writing of J. Krishnamurti have influenced the structure of this school.
Phillip teaches: music, adventure playground, men's class, wild foods, and ecological design. He has helped design and build 5 buildings that form the campus of Upland Hills School: a Dome workshop, an earth insulated, ecological awareness center, a passive solar home, a school building that generates 70% of it's own electricity, and a performing arts theatre that seats 150 and is made of recycled materials.
Phillip holds a Bachelors of Science degree, state teaching certificates, and a Masters degree in Ecological Education
"As a director, Phil's style is empowering. He trusts us and lets us follow our passions. If we can bring our passions into the classroom, our students are affected deeply by what we teach. He is careful to acknowledge our efforts and encourage our endeavors. He is supportive and is a skilled listener. He has gained my admiration and love. He sets a tone that is easy-going and accepting. the whole school resonates with his caring and love."
Upland Hills School is a Michigan Independent School organized as a non-profit 501c3 and located in 12 acres of woods and rolling meadows in Oxford, Michigan. The school is surrounded by the acreage of Upland Hills Ecological Awareness Center, Upland Hills Farm and Bald Mountain Recreation Area.
