Recent psychological experiments demonstrate that people have already made a decision unconsciously by the time they think they are making it consciously. In this workshop you will learn how to identify the beliefs and attitudes that underlie your decisions and direct your behavior.

Our definition of “myth” is an imaginative statement or story about existential human concerns that impact people’s behavior. The Iliad and The Ramayana are myths, but so are the statements, “I can never do anything right” and “I am capable of giving unconditional love.”

We will draw from the ancient writings of Epictetus and the Greek philosophers and the more recent works of Joseph Campbell and Albert Ellis. Participants will be guided through several “personal rituals,” each of which will help them identify, evaluate, and change their existing worldviews and belief systems.

You will learn…

  • how to identify your own personal myths through guided imagery, dreams, and self-observation
  • how to evaluate myths, change myths that are not serving you well, and make behavior changes that will anchor the revised myths

Dr. Stanley Kripper is professor of psychology at Saybrook University. He is the co-author of Personal Mythology and Extraordinary Dreams and How to Work with Them.
