Charles Brush set the altitude record for scuba diving in the crater lake of the volcano Licancabur in Chile and is credited with excavating the earliest ceramics known in Mexico. An anthropologist who earned his PhD at Columbia University, he served on the board of Brush Wellman, Inc. and Deep Ocean Engineering. Charles was a curatorial associate of the Peabody Museum of Yale University and was a trustee of the Sierra Club Foundation, President of the American-Scandinavian Society, and President of the Explorers Club.
