Belvie Rooks

Belvie Rooks served on the IONS Board of Directors until 2013. She is a writer, an educator, and a television producer whose work weaves together the worlds of spirituality, ecology, and social and environmental justice. Her published works have been included in a number of books and anthologies. She was a writer and a producer of the inspirational TV show Courage and is one of the featured writers in Moonrise: The Power of Women’s Leadership—Leading from the Heart, edited by Nina Simons. Belvie is co-founder of the nonprofit Growing a Global Heart.

Ms. Rooks is a former board member of Bioneers (visionary and practical solutions for restoring the earth), The Urban Habitat Program (the oldest environmental justice organization in the country), and the Positive Futures Network/Yes Magazine, and is currently Chair of the Board of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation. She is a Core Faculty member of Holy Names University's Culture and Spirituality Program, and a founding board member of the Friends of Creation Spirituality, founded by Matthew Fox.
