Matthew Fox

Matthew Fox is a spiritual theologian, an Episcopal priest, and a social activist, who has written thirty-three books. He has been a major contributor to the rediscovery of the pre-modern mystics and prophets Hildegard of Bingen, Thomas Aquinas, and Meister Eckhart. Matthew’s interest in the renewal of education and religion led him to establish the Institute in Culture and Creation Spirituality, which flourished for many years, as well as the University of Creation Spirituality, which flourished as well for nine years in the heart of downtown Oakland. Matthew works with young people to reinvent and renew forms of worship, bringing elements such as rave into the Western liturgy. His Cosmic Mass has been celebrated on countless occasions in dozens of cities throughout North America. He has been honored with the Abbey Courage of Conscience Peace Award, the Ghandi King Ikeda Award, and the Tikkun National Ethics Award, among others. Matthew is currently a visiting scholar at the Academy of the Love of Learning in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
