IONS Community Groups
Opportunities to Explore Noetic Topics
IONS Community Groups bring together a dynamic collection of people interested in exploring noetic topics and facilitating a personal and collective shift in consciousness.
Though self-organized and self-directed, the Community Groups listed on this site are both inspired by and recognized by the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

Don’t See a Local Group? Start Your Own!
Starting an IONS Community Group may well be one of the most exciting things you will ever do! You will be creating a space where like minded people can explore more deeply ideas that some rarely find a time or a place to address.
Many IONS Community Group members say that their meetings are one of the few places in their lives where they can gather for conversations that matter. One of the great joys of an IONS Community Group is that it is participatory. Group members often choose dialog themes for their meetings and formats for their gatherings in shared leadership.
Groups range in size from as few as five or six people who gather on a regular (and sometimes irregular) basis to share in dialog, to much larger groups which may offer monthly speakers to large audiences and be the "umbrella" for smaller, more intimate group gatherings focused on a particular topic. You and your group members will find a format that fits your needs and style.
About Community Groups
IONS Community Groups are independent, self-organizing, voluntary associations of members and their friends. Located across the globe, the groups bring together a dynamic collection of people dedicated to exploring a wide range of noetic topics toward a personal and collective shift in consciousness. Groups often meet to discuss articles, books, inspiring films, and other IONS materials.
Each group sets its own purpose and direction, consistent with IONS’ overall mission. Since IONS was founded on the premise that both traditional science and “direct knowing” (noetic science) are valid means of understanding the universe, groups usually draw on both principles for their programs. The particular balance of the two will depend on the interests of the group leaders and members, thus considerable diversity of programming exists among the groups. The essence of IONS groups might be said to be: Science, Spirit, Curiosity and Community.
Purpose and Principles
Purpose: To form a learning community focused on living consciously and connecting our inner and outer lives.
Principles: A commitment to...
- building a bridge between science and spirituality
- creating a safe place to learn and share with others
- developing our personal paths and spiritual growth
- connecting like-minded people across the globe
- supporting IONS by sharing the Institute’s research, education, and events
Relationship of Community Groups to the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS)
While IONS supports and assists groups in a variety of ways, each local community group operates independently of IONS and is legally and financially responsible for its own activities. Community groups are not "chapters" and we ask that they not refer to themselves as such. Becoming a member of a community group is not the same as becoming a member of IONS, we encourage community group participants to also support IONS to keep the transformative work going!
IONS is committed to encouraging both diversity and local control of local activities. IONS trusts that groups will operate with integrity and guide their gatherings with good intentions. IONS strives to foster open and communicative relationships with them.
Joining a Group
Why join a Community Group?
IONS Community Groups are a powerful way to connect with like-minded allies, explore frontier ideas about consciousness and transformation, and make a significant impact on our world. With almost 200 groups in the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia, our Community Groups are an active and dynamic collection of people dedicated to exploring the frontiers of consciousness. Some of these groups sponsor lectures, conferences, and experiential events in their respective locales in addition to their regular group gatherings.
Can anyone participate in an IONS group?
Yes, everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate! The Coordinator should encourage individuals who are not familiar with IONS to visit the website to learn about the work of the Institute and sign up for the monthly eNewsletters.
Is there a fee to attend a Community Group?
Each community group individually sets their own cost for people to attend the meeting, some are free while others are not. All community group participants are also encouraged to support IONS — your gifts help support this website and our network of Community Groups, in addition to funding IONS' research and education.
