Imagine a 'global wisdom center' that is a model of sustainable development...
please see update from 4/25/13 below
This short video debuted at IONS' 40th anniversary celebration at EarthRise Center on January 20th, 2013. This was the opening day of our new Environmental Education Center, which showcases plans to develop EarthRise into one of the most environmentally sustainable retreat, education, and research centers in the world.
The video paints a picture of the breadth of work IONS has been engaged in for the past 40 years, and looks ahead to the creation of a 'global wisdom center' on a truly sustainable campus where this work can expand and flourish. This new sustainability project has roots in the vision and dreams of IONS leadership stretching back to our founder, astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who saw the beauty and fragility of our home planet from the window seat of a spacecraft.
Our partners at Healthy Buildings, an organization with 30 years of experience designing and building environmentally sustainable buildings and living environments, created this video for IONS.
SUSTAINABILITY UPDATE (April 25, 2013): EarthRise Center has completed 94% of the requirements for Marin County Green Business Certification! In collaboration with Healthy Buildings Technology Group of Napa, CA, we are well into development of a sustainability showcase that will incorporate earth-friendly renewable energy resources – like solar, recycled building materials, and water reclamation systems – into our new campus lodging and the landscape. Construction of two new lodges of four rooms each will begin as soon as the county planning review is done, and we anticipate completion within the next six months.
Please join us at the 8th Annual Sustainable Enterprise Conference, April 26, in Rohnert Park, CA, to learn more about our plans, and to meet and collaborate with leading innovators in sustainability.
